Perrion all of Carroll, conducted the funeral services of Mrs. Mary Regan Tuesday morning at 9:30 at Bayard. Mrs. Regan has spent practically all her life in or near Coon Rapids. She passed away Friday evening at the home of her daughter in Omaha at the age of 80 years. Burial was made in the Willow cemetery. Jefferson Bee - Tuesday, April 20, 1937 - Mrs. Mary Ann Gallagher Regan, one of the pioneer residents of Greene county, Iowa, died on April 2nd, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. McDonald in Omaha. She was in her eighty-first year and had been ill for a week from heart ailment. She is survived by six children: Mrs. Catherine Hony and Mrs. E.S. McDonald of Des Moines; Charles Regan of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba; Mrs. E.L. McDonald of Omaha; Frank Regan of Bayard, Iowa and Mrs. EJ Sullivan of Marengo, Iowa. Five grandchildren also survive: Mrs. J.C. Chamberlin and Mrs Floyd Stier, Des Moines; Charles E and Catherine Hony, Omaha, and Mary Margaret Regan of Bayard. The great grandchildren are Mary Grace Chamberlin of Des Moines and Joseph Howard of Omaha. On Sunday the body was brought to the old home near Bayard, now occupied by the son, Frank, and the funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Catholic Church in Bayard. The Solemn High Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Mattes of Scranton. Two priests from Carroll assisted. The interment was in Willow cemetery beside the body of the husband who passed away about fifty years ago. Mary A. Gallagher, daughter of John and Catherine Gallagher, was born at Iowa City on February 19, 1857, and in 1858 her parents moved to York township. She attended the old Thompson? school and in March 1875, she was united in marriage with Charles S. Regan at Iowa City and the following year the young couple moved to Greene county in which they were early settlers. Early in life she was bereft of her husband but with the courage of pioneer ancestry she reared her family and the sons and daughters never forgetting the sacrifices of their mother, became worthy members of society. Mrs. Regan was a woman of outstanding character; she made of her home a shrine in every sense of the word, and in the community n which she spent so many fruitful years. She was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. She took an active part in all matters of public interest. She was a life long member of the Catholic Church, was faithful to its precepts and during all the golden years she wore so gracefully. She lived long years, made the world better by her presence, and in many a community the mention of her name will be the signal for a tear and a prayer. Gallagher, reared the family of their brother, Gerald, who died in 1916, the mother died in 1913. Gerald was a twin brother of J.P. Gallagher. Only one of the twelve children, John, was through high school at the time. John later died in 1918. .. A sister, Mrs. Miss Katie McMahan of Fordville, ND died on the same day as Miss Gallagher and waa buried the same day. She leaves a husband and nine children. They came to Dubuque in 1868, and to Greene county in 1870, located on section 16 in Cedar township, 160 acres of which was raw prairie land.
