On the 1870 Wasco County, Oregon census she is listed as Mary Kays with daughter, Lydia Kays. In November 1872, she married John William Blakeney, who was also divorced, in Wasco County, Oregon. On the 1883 Territory of Washington census, she is listed as Mary Blakeney. In 1884, she and John divorced. The 1902 Seattle City Directory lists her as Mary Blakeney, widow of John W. The funeral services of the late Mrs. Mary Blakeney, first white woman to settle in what is now the city of Seattle and who traveled across the plains in a wagon drawn by an ox team in 1851, were held yesterday afternoon from her late residence at 609 Eighth Avenue South. Rev. Mr. Clifford officiated at the services and the internment was in Lake View Cemetery. Mrs. Blakeney was 75 years of age [indicating a birth year of 1829] at the time of her death and her maiden name was Kays. The funeral was largely attended by some of the old pioneers of the city.
