Foretells Date of Death As she had told friends and relatives it would occur and on the day she had forenamed, Mrs. Mary Grindle, the oldest resident in Mier and one of the first settlers in Grant county, passed away Sunday afternoon at the home of her brother, Joseph Knapp, in Mier. Ten days ago Mrs. Grindle informed her nearest friends that she would die Sunday, July 28. Last Wednesday she foretold in conversation with William Fitzgerald that she would survive but four days longer. Saturday she told others that all the relatives would be at her home Sunday, and as she had seemed to have premonition of the coming of the death angel, the death angel came. It is a peculiar fact, moreover, that Mrs. Grindle was born on Sunday. All preparations had been made by the deceased for her death and burial, the coming of which she seemed in no way to dread. Her casket had been picked out and her shroud prepared. Mrs. Grindle died Sunday afternoon. She was the widow of Samuel Grindle, her second husband. She was born March 7, 1818, and removed to Grant County, settling south of Marion with the first pioneers of the locality. For thirty years she had been a resident of Mier. When she first moved here she was the wife of Mr. West, from which union there are three children surviving, William West of Greentown, Joseph of Mier and Mrs. Elizabeth Lillard of Marion. Throughout her life the aged woman was a member of the Methodist church and a conscientious Christian. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from the Methodist church in Mier with the services conducted by Rev. J. R. Moody of Frankfort and Rev. J. O. Ledbetter of Swayzee, per Mrs. Grindle's request. Burial was made in the Thrailkill cemetery, Swayzee. The Swayzee Press(Swayzee, Ind) Friday, 2 Aug 1907 Pg. 1
