They were the parents of Carlotte, Victor, Maude, Mayme, Frank, and Albert Leonard. April 26, 1923 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Mary Schirck, widow of the late Victor Schirck, died at her home suddenly Friday evening at 10:15 o'clock after being in her usual health all day. During the early evening she played cards with the members of the family and spent a happy time. Later as she was preparing for bed she was taken with a smothering spell. The doctor was called immediately and all that loving hands could do was done to spare her life but she died in the arms of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. M.A. Schirck, before the remainder of the family had time to arrive. Mrs. Schirck, nee Mary Ann Olerich, was born in Hazel Green, Wis., January 14, 1867. Her mother died when she was but a small girl and in 1870 her father with his four sons and three daughters located on a farm in Kniest township near Mt. Carmel. Her marriage to Victor Schirck, of Kniest township, took place in 1875. Mrs. Schirck was a devout Christian woman and a splendid home maker. While the early married life of herself and husband was that of the pioneer, hers was a useful, happy life, full of purpose. Ten years ago she suffered the loss of her husband and a year and three weeks ago her son, Frank Schirck, died. She had not been in good health since an attack of flu four years ago. After the death of her son she began to fail in health, the discomfort and torture of asthma and the grief over the sudden death of her son being more than she could endure. Of the six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Schirck, four are left to mourn her death. The surviving are Victor Schirck, Albert Schirck, Mrs. Anton Thieleke and Mrs. Jacob Sapp, all of Carroll. One daughter, Mrs. Thomas Lambert, died 13 years ago, and Frank a year ago. Mrs. Schirck is also survived by nine grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters. She was the first of the children to pass beyond. The brothers are John Olerich, of Carroll; Tom Olerich, of California; Joe Olerich, of Breda; and Henry Olerich, of Omaha. The sisters are Mrs. Henry Riche, of Breda, and Mrs. Anna Sevason, of Tacoma, Wash. Mrs. Schirck's well improved farm of large acreage east of town is well known to every resident of the city. After the death of her husband she continued to make her home on the farm she loved so well with her sons Frank and Albert. After the death of her son, Frank, she made her home on the farm with her son, Albert and his wife. Funeral services were held at the St. Joseph church Monday morning at 9 o'clock and were largely attended. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery, where she was laid to rest beside her loved ones, who had gone before. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Regina Becker, Mrs. Maude Kniest and daughter, Mrs. Henry Olerich, of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Olerich, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Olerich, Mr. and Mrs. Vic Olerich, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Olerich, Mr. and Mrs. Will Ricke, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Rieke, Mr and Mrs. John Rieke, Mr. and Mrs Ben Ricke, all of Breda; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ricke, of Independence; Mr. and Mrs. F.J. Olerich, Mr. on Mrs. Earl Olerich, Mr. and Mrs. Edward O'Toole and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rolling, of Breda.
