Description	:	The death of Mrs. J. W. Roots of 411 Hickory St., occurred yesterday morning at 5 o'clock at the home. The death was caused by anemia from which she had been bedfast for the past two months. She was 64 years of age at the time of her death. Mr. and Mrs. Roots, now residents here, having moved in from their farm near Cumberland only last November. Mr. and Mrs. Roots, now residents here, having moved in from their farm near Cumberland only last November. Handy of the Methodist Church of this city will be in charge of the services. Polly Ann Newton was born in Taylor County, Kentucky in 1852. Her parents were James and Luella Ann Newton. She spent her girlhood in that County and at the age of 18 the family moved to Indiana. On February 24, 1871 she was married to J. W. Roots in Taylor County. The young couple moved to Iowa where they settled in Polk County. There they lived for five years and came to Cass County 26 years ago where they have since resided. Last November they moved to 411 Hickory St. in the city. She leaves one brother and one sister, besides her immediate family to mourn her death. The brother is Isaac Newton of Wellfleet, Nebraska and the sister is Mrs. J.C. Dee of Shelby, Iowa. Her husband and three children survive her. The children are Mrs. Ida B. Garside, living north of Messina; Samuel O., living in Adams County and John R., living between Messina and Anita. She was a member of the Methodist church since girlhood and has always been interested in the affairs of the church. She was a devoted wife and mother and had many friends in this community who will join with the sorrowing family in mourning her death. -Atlantic News Telegraph, May 1, 1916.
