Description	:	Mrs. Matilda Dee passed away Saturday at her home. Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Frum on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. D. J. Hower are officiating. Interment was in the Shelby Cemetery with the Eastern Star burial services at the grave. Matilda Ann, daughter of Jane and William Newton was born near Mansfield, Kentucky April 27, 1853. Hower are officiating. Interment was in the Shelby Cemetery with the Eastern Star burial services at the grave. Matilda Ann, daughter of Jane and William Newton was born near Mansfield, Kentucky April 27, 1853. When 16 years of age she came with her brother William to Colfax, Iowa and two years later was united in marriage to John S. Dee of that city. To this union three children were born. In 1881 the Dee family moved to Shelby and located on a farm, later moving to town. Shelby has been her home for 57 years. Mr. Dee passed away in 1922. At the age of 13, she became a member of the Methodist Church which membership she retained throughout her life. She was a charter member of Shelby chapter number 69, Order of the Eastern Star, organized here September 13, 1888. Her inborn southern hospitality opened her home to old and young alike and her happy disposition made friends which were legion. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kelsey of Adair, Ms. Cecil Frum and Miss Evelyn Schnackel of Omaha attended the funeral. - Harlan News Advertiser, September 15, 1938.
