Newport is an unincorporated community in Page County, Virginia, United States. Newport is located on the Shenandoah River and U.S. Route 340 5 miles west of Stanley. Her dad owned a mill there. This family moved to Barbour County, VA (WV). Her dad bought land along the Tygart River, built a mill, store, etc. This community became Rowtown and later this name changed to Junior, WV. Her son and grandsons became mayors & leaders in Junior & Belington, WV and their biographies were published in the older West Virginia books. Mary Ann married Charles Emile Viquesney, son of Charles Alfred Viquesney (1802-) and Rosalie Buhour Viquesney (1805-). The Viquesney family came from Paris, France and settled in Barbour County, Virginia (now West Virginia). This is where Mary Ann and Charles Emile Viquesney raised their 11 children: Eliza Virginia Viquesney (1852-1929), Charles Viquesney (1853-1871), Benjamin Viquesney (1855-1927), Sarah Viquesney (1856-1931), Polly Viquesney (1858-1939), Louis N Viquesney (1860-1935), Julia Frances Viquesney (1864-1931), Laura Belle Viquesney (1866-1931), Jules Augusta Viquesney (1869-1950), Julia Frances Viquesney (1871-1936) and Birdie Viquesney 1872-1913. Mary Ann's dad (Benjamin Row) owned a dam and a mill in Newport, Va (Page County). which was destroyed by flood. Benjamin and his wife, Sarah moved their family to a place now called "Junior, WV" in Barbour County, WV between the Randolph County line and Belington, WV, and he again established a grist mill. The new grist mill was built on the Tygart Valley River near Gage, W. Va., He also built a store and a blacksmith shop, and purchased land extending down the river about one and one half miles including all of the land east of the river where the town of Junior now stands. The settlement which grew up a mile north of the null was first called Rowtown. The builders of the railroad, which ran through the settlement, changed the name to Junior. ("From Rowtown to Junior" by Troy R. Brady). Benjamin installed a steam sawmill and sawed the lumber used in building many of the first houses in the town.
