Description	:	MRS JOHN DOWNEY Departed this life Monday morning June 9, 1902, at the age of 77 years. Mary Eckenrode was born in Pennsylvania, and there married John Sheridan, by which union sixteen children were born, and at the death of her husband she was left alone with her family of little ones, where she lived until 1880, when she was married to John Downey. Mr Downey brought his wife to his home in Dayton township, where they resided until about 12 years ago, moving then to the vicinity of Victor. The funeral services were held Wednesday... Read More	MRS JOHN DOWNEY Departed this life Monday morning June 9, 1902, at the age of 77 years. Mary Eckenrode was born in Pennsylvania, and there married John Sheridan, by which union sixteen children were born, and at the death of her husband she was left alone with her family of little ones, where she lived until 1880, when she was married to John Downey. Mr Downey brought his wife to his home in Dayton township, where they resided until about 12 years ago, moving then to the vicinity of Victor. The funeral services were held Wednesday morning by Father Dunnion from the Catholic church, of which deceased was a faithful member, and her life has been an exemplification of a devout Christian. She was a kind and dutiful mother to her own as well as to those children who came under her care by her marriage with Mr. Downey, he being the father of ten children, some of whom were small and in need of just such care as they had from her. Only praise was ever heard for her who met life's battles with a brave heart and untiring attention of duties, until disease made her an invalid some ten years ago. And life's work having been finished she was ready to go to her God and the reward that is promised the faithful. She leaves living nine children six of whom live in Pennsylvania, and three in Iowa--Andy Sheridan and Mrs. A.C. Bender of Victor and Mrs. Christian Brown of Des Moines. In her last years of affliction an attentive and kind husband and a dutiful daughter--Mrs. Bender--were sources of much comfort to her.
