Mrs. Gilbert Zegers Died on Saturday Evening, Dec. 23. Death came to Mrs. Gilbert Zegers at her home in North David City at 6 o'clock Saturday evening, Dec. 23, caused from a stroke of paralysis. Although she had been in failing health for some years, due to her advanced age of nearly 92 years, her last illness was of but four days duration. Mary Anna Litjen was Mrs. Zegers' maiden name. She was born February 2, 1842, at Sevenum, Luiburg, Holland, where she grew to young womanhood and was married to Peter Peters in 1867. To them were born three sons, of whom two died in infancy, the surviving son being Albert H. Peters of David City. Her husband passed away and she was married in 1875 to Gilbert Zegers. Mr. and Mrs. Zegers and their children came to the United States in 1881, locating on a farm near Garrison, which was their home for 25 years. On January 1, 1907, Mr. and Mrs. Zegers moved to David City. Mr. Zegers died on May 16, 1920. Surviving Mrs. Zegers are six children, P. M. Zegers of Garrison, Mrs. Anna Kearney, Mrs. Mary Danaher, Mrs. Minnie Smith and A. H. Peters of David City and George Zegers of Elgin, 46 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Two daughters, Mrs. Christine Theewen and Miss Mary Ann Zegers, preceding her in death. Mrs. Zegers was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and St. Mary's Altar society. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, Dec. 26, conducted by Rev. Father Murphy and Rev. Father Elnen of David City, Rev. Father Wageman of Colon and Rev. Father Dowd of Center. St. Mary's choir sang. Six grandsons of Mrs. Zegers, John Peters, Lew Zegers, Mathew Theewen, Virgil Zegers, George Smith and Jerome Danaher, were the pallbearers. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. Those attending the funeral from elswewhere were: Pete Litjen from Wyoming, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sedlick from Fullerton, N. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. George Zegers and children from Elgin, Gilbert Litjen, from Scibner, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Speice from Columbus, Mrs. Roy Freeman and Mr. and Mrs. Nick Beckius from Schuyler, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Geiger and Mrs. Bradley from Ulysses and Mr. and Mrs. Barney Brochtrup of Bellwood. _____ Card of Thanks - Our heartfelt thanks are extended to the many friends and neighbors for their kindness during the illness and at time of death of our mother, also for the spiritual boquets and to the Board of Supervisors and W. ZEGERS PASSED AWAY At the ripe old age of 91 years, 1 month and 21 days, Mrs. Mary Anna Zegers passed away at her home in North David City at 6 P. M. Saturday, December 23rd of a paralytic stroke, after a four days illness, however, Mrs. Zegers had been ailing for some time previous to her passing. Mrs. Zegers was born to Mr. and Mrs. Litjen in Sevenum, Limburg, Holland, and was married to Peter Peters in 1867. Three sons were born to this union, two passing away in infancy and one surviving, Albert, of this city. She was again married to Gilbert Zegers at Sevenum, Limburg, Holland, in 1875 to which union were born eight children, two passing away, they being Mrs. Christine Theween and Miss Mary Ann Zegers. She came to the United States and Nebraska in July, 1881, and lived on a farm until January 1st, 1917, when they moved to David City where they spent the declining years, the husband passing away on May 16th, 1920. The surviving children are P. M. Zegers of Garrison, Mrs. Anna Kearney, Mrs. Mary Danaher, Mrs. Minnie Smith and A. H. Peters; all of David City and George Zegers of Elgin. There are 40 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren surviving. Deceased was a member of the St. Mary's church, also a member of the Altar Society. Those here for the services from away were Mr. and Mrs. George Zegers and family of Elgin, Mrs. Bradley, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Geiger of Ulysses, Gilbert Litjen of Scribner, Peter Litjen of Casper, Wyoming, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Speice of Columbus, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sedlick, of Fullerton, N.D., Mrs. Roy Freeman of Schuyler, Mr. and Mrs. Barney Brochtrup of Bellwood, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Beckius of Schuyler. Funeral services were conducted from the St. Mary's church at 9:30 Monday, December 26th with Father Murphy and Father Einen of this city, Father Wageman of Colon and Father Dowd of Center in charge. Burial took place at the Catholic cemetery. Pall bearers were grandsons, John Peters, Mathew Theween, Leo Smith, Lew Zegers, Jerome Danaher and Virgil Zegers. ____ CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our thanks to the kind friends and neighbors for their thoughtfulness during the illness and death of our mother, also for the spiritual bouquets and we also thank the board of supervisors and W.H.
