Smith Funeral Services Conducted Dec. 26 Funeral services for Mrs. Jacob J. Smith, 75, were conducted at St. Mary’s Church in David City Dec. 26. She died at the David City Hospital Dec. 22 after an illness of two days. Msgr. A. J. Lisko was in charge of services. Music was provided by St. Mary’s choir. Members of St. Mary’s Altar Society attended services in a body. Relatives and friends attending from out of town were from Chicago, Ill. and Carter Lake, Iowa, and Omaha, Elgin and Petersburg. Nephews serving as pallbearers were Jack Peters, Ben Reisdorff, Carl Theewen, Gerald Danaher, Louis Zegers and Bill Vanderheiden. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, David City. Minnie J. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Zegers, was born April 21, 1886, in Butler County. In June, 1927, she was married at David City to Jacob J. Smith. They lived in David City all of their married life. Mrs. Smith was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Guild, and Missionary Society. She is survived by two step daughters, Mrs. Marie Gibb, Chicago, Ill. and Mrs. Ella Porter, Carter Lake, Iowa; three step sons, Jerome Smith, Carter Lake, Iowa, Leo Smith, Omaha, and Wilfred Smith, Scottsdale, Ariz., one sister, Mrs. Anna Kearney, David City and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
