Description	:	Rev. Isaac Newton was born in England on March 2, 1816. He married Ann Mapstone, who died leaving him with one child. Soon after his wife’s death he immigrated to America in 1849. In August 1852, he married Mary Baker, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Wall) Baker. Mary was born Feb. 18, 1827 in England. Mary’s brother William lived in Farley and Richard lived at John’s Creek. A sister, Mrs. Demmet, resided in Chicago and baked the Newton’s wedding cake. Soon after his wife’s death he immigrated to America in 1849. In August 1852, he married Mary Baker, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Wall) Baker. Mary was born Feb. 18, 1827 in England. Mary’s brother William lived in Farley and Richard lived at John’s Creek. A sister, Mrs. Demmet, resided in Chicago and baked the Newton’s wedding cake. Their marriage took place in a log cabin 4 miles south of Farley at the home of her brother, Richard Baker. They lived to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary and Mrs. Demmet again baked their golden wedding anniversary cake. Isaac and Mary had seven children, four of which died infancy. Rev. Isaac Newton was one of the early ministers of the Methodist Church at Farley. At one time he was ministering to twelve congregations. Rev. Newton was also a presiding elder over the Davenport District for a period of time. He died Sept. 3, 1904, Mrs. Newton died Feb. 9, 1917. Both are buried at Fairview Cemetery.
