Dickey The Nevada Methodist church was filled to capacity Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with sorrowing relatives and friend in attendance at the last rites for Mrs. Bert S. Dickey, 72, beloved wife and mother, who passed away at her home 627 Seventh street, Friday night [February 25, 1944] at 11:30 p.m. after an illness of several months. The services were in charge of her pastor, the Reverend O. E. Conley, who paid tribute to the beautiful Christian character of the deceased in a brief but fitting eulogy. He spoke of the splendid influence of her life in the home, the church and the community. Comparing their sweetness of her life to the flowers which surrounded her bier, Reverend Cooley stated their beauty and fragrance was symbolic of a life which because of her abundant faith and devotion had been a consecrated one. The casket was covered with and surrounded by beautiful floral tributes fro relatives and friends which spoke eloquently of the love and esteem in which she was held in the community. Mrs. Norman Dobson was at the organ playing a group of appropriate hymns as a prelude to the large number present passed the bier in silent farewell to one whom they had known and loved. The casket bearers were R. A. Davis, Harold Tipton, F. G. King, E. C. Wendel, G. H. Ludwig and C. E. Bivens. Belle Miller was born July 20, 1872 at Ames, a daughter of J. H. and Sarah Miller. She was married at Slater on Sept. 14, 1893 where she had been teaching school for three years, to Bert S. Dickey, then a young man in the mercantile business with his father, the late C. H. Dickey in Maxwell. The family home was in Maxwell until moving to Missouri in 1902 where they remained until 1905. Mr. and Mrs. Dickey and family came to Nevada in 1906 and here the sons were raised to young manhood. Mr. and Mrs. Dickey have been living in the home they built at 627 Seventh street for a number of years. It was here they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary last fall. Mrs. Dickey was a lifelong member of the Methodist church, always active in the work of the church and its auxiliaries. She was a longtime member of the Sorosis club, one of the oldest women's social organizations of the city and was a member of Nevada chapter No. 296 Order of the Eastern Star. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery with the Reverend O. E. Cooley in charge of the committal service. Those her for the last rites in addition to the sons Lyle of Des Moines and wife, and Harold Dickey and wife of Washington, D. C., were her brother, Wm. Miller of Perry, also Mr. and Morton Lyons, Mr. and Mrs. George Stevenson, and Arthur Miller of Perry, Miss Jeanne Lantz of Des Moines and a number from Maxwell and other places in the county. Mrs. Dickey is survived by her husband and three sons, the latter being Lyle Dickey of Des Moines, Harold Dickey of Washington, D. C. and Byron Dickey of Nevada. A younger son, Glen Dickey passed away about six years ago. The husband, surviving sons and their families were all here at the time of her death. She also leaves two grandchildren, Carole Dickey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Dickey of Des Moines and Claude George Dickey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Dickey of Nevada, and one brother, William H. Miller of Perry.
