Crubaugh below lists her birth date as Oct 1857. The birth date used for this memorial (24 Mar 1860) is based on the death certificate and the 1870 and 1880 census listings. The 1860 census lists her as being "3 years" old, but it should have been written "3 months" old. This excerpt is from the book - "Crubaugh, the American Story" by William Leon Crubaugh, Jr. MARY C. CRUBAUGH THOMPSON Mary C., a daughter of David and Margaret M.E. Crubaugh, was born in October of 1857, on the family farm at West Point, Ohio. She was a granddaughter of Isaac and Catherine Crubaugh, and John and Jane Benner. Her older siblings were Eliza Alice, Harriet, Nancy C., Jerusha C., Ada B., Absolem B., Phoebe J., and Eli O. As a young woman, Mary taught school for several years. She and her younger sister, Ella, became communicants in the West Beaver United Presbyterian Church at West Point on October 27, 1877. Mary was 24 years old when she was married to Charles W. Thompson in Stark County, Ohio. The ceremony was conducted by D.D. Waugh on January 18, 1882. At the time of her father's death in 1910, Mary and Charles were residing at Lewistown, near Columbus, Ohio. On June 19, 1911, Mary C. Thompson filed a suit in the Columbiana County Court at Lisbon, Ohio, against her sister, Ella B. Jennings, her brother, Wesley W. Crubaugh, and T.O. Kelley (Guardian for her brother, Eli O. Crubaugh) in an attempt to stop a sale by Sheriff W.C. Davidson, of the Crubaugh farm in Madison Township, to Wesley W. Crubaugh. Wesley purchased the 166 acres, excluding the ground containing Morgan's Surrender Monument, for the sum of $6000.00. Mary C. Thompson was buried in the West Beaver U.P. Church Cemetery, at West Point, Ohio.
