Description	:	Obit: Mrs J C Keith, one of the oldest residents of this county and one of Audubon's earliest pioneers, passed away at her home in this city early yesterday afternoon. Her passing followed an illness of several weeks' duration. Hopes for her recovery had vanished long before the end came, due to her advanced age. Her passing followed an illness of several weeks' duration. Hopes for her recovery had vanished long before the end came, due to her advanced age. All of her children had been at her bedside during her last illness. Mrs Keith observed her 92nd birthday here on December 8th. Almost half of her life was spent in Audubon county and she numbered her friends by the hundred. Born in Uniontown, PA on December 8, 1834, she received her early education in the schools of that state and came to Iowa with her parents when a girl, the family settling near Fremont in Mahaska county. It was there that her marriage to Jesse C Keith took place. She and her husband continued to make Fremont their home until 1882 when they came to this county buying and settling upon a farm in Viola township. Familiar as she was with the early conditions in this county, Mrs Keith during her later years recalled many experiences of her younger days that sound strange to those who have known only modern times, values and conveniences. The farm which she and her family occupied in Viola twp was bought for $19 an acre, and 2 years later when Mr Keith sold out and the family moved to Melville twp, he drove what was considered a wonderful bargain when he disposed of the same farm for $30 an acre, one of the highest prices at which an Audubon county farm had ever sold up to the time. The family lived on the same farm in Melville twp until their retirement and removal to Audubon in the early 90s. Mrs Keith had made her home since the death of her husband in the same home in the north part of the city, which became the home only a few years after the family's removal to Audubon. There her daughter, Miss Mabel Keith, has cared for her during her declining years. Mrs Keith was the mother of 6 children, all of whom are living. The are Mrs Nellie McIntire, Oklahoma Ciity, OK; Mrs Minnie Hunter of Glidden; Gus Keith, Los Angeles, CA; B A Keith, P J Keith and Miss Mabel Keith, all of this city. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
