Lloyd Latta officiating. Burial was in the Jamison cemetery. She was 83 years old and for more than fifty years was a teacher in the rural schools of the county. Miss Edgington started teaching school when she was 17 years old and continued in that occupation until her retirement a few years ago. She was known to many hundreds of Clarke county men and women who had attended school under her. Mary Catherine Edgington, daughter of Leonard D. and Ann Eliza Edgington, was born April 28, 1862, near Pleasantville, Iowa, and passed away Jan. 1, 1946 at her home in Jamison, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 3 days. When a young girl she moved with her parents to Diller, Nebr., then a pioneer town, returning with them a few years later to Clarke county, Iowa. Since that time she has resided in Fremont and Liberty townships of this county. Beginning in her seventeenth year, Miss Edgington taught in the rural schools of Clarke county for almost half a century. Teaching was her life work and her absorbing interest. Even in the last days of her life she never forgot to ask her small neighbors and her grand nieces and nephews about their daily work in school. She loved and enjoyed children and her pupils were her friends. In every community in Fremont township there are many grown men and women who are proud to say that they "went to school to Mary". She was a faithful member of the Jamison M. E. church and as long as her health would permit attended every service. No task was too difficult if it was in the service of her Lord. She leaves to remember her kindness and devotion, two brothers, Richard of Steele City, Nebr., William of Jamison, Ia., nine nieces and nephews and many friends. Services were held from the Webster Funeral Home Friday afternoon, the Rev. Lloyd Latta officiating. Interment in Jamison cemetery.
