Description	:	GLENMONT -- Mary D. Simmons, 92, of Glenmont, passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 21, 2015, at the Holmes County Home, Holmesville. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Glenmont, with Father Stephen L. Krile officiating. Burial will be in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Cemetery, Glenmont. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, in care of St. Peter Catholic Church, 379 S. Crawford St., Millersburg 44654. She was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Glenmont, the daughter of Albert A. and Teresa M. (Weber) Dete. She was born on the family farm and lived there with her father until his death in 1988. She was a 1941 graduate of Glenmont High School and on April 19, 1947, married Herbert Elkins Simmons. He survives. Mary was a secretary for the Holmes County Extension Office and was a homemaker. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Glenmont, the Seven Hills Garden Club, Millersburg American Legion Post 192, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Glenmont Fire Department Women's Auxiliary. She was extremely active in the community. Mary was an accomplished knitter, she tatted, and crocheted. She was an excellent cook, baker, gardener and was an avid euchre player. She was a farm wife and enjoyed every aspect of living on a farm. She loved making homemade soap and butter. Mary also made and sold dinner rolls and pounds and pounds of homemade caramels. Surviving in addition to her husband, are daughters, Julia (Tom) Brewer of Glenmont, Carol Ann (Bob) Overman of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Barbara Ann (Gene) Kaser of Kansas, Ohio; grandchildren, Grace, Luke, Emma and Madelyn Brewer, Sarah Overman, Katie (Kevin) Horton, Kyle (Tabitha) Kaser, Rebecca Kaser, Mark (Bekah) Kaser, Teresa (Josh) Wengerd and Mike (Anne) Taylor; great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Reece Wengerd, Cooper Kaser, and Lori and Beth Taylor; a brother, John J. (Janet) Dete of West Liberty; a sister, Rose Imelda Murnane of Galloway; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Burgett, who died in 1986; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Murnane. The family would like to say a special thank you, to the staff at the Holmes County Home, for all the love and care they showed toward Mary.
