(where her husband was from), Mary was married by late 1844 (probably in Mercer Co., PA.) to widower Justus Dunham, who had at least 5 children by his first marriage; Mary would bear at least 5 children of her own. About 1848-49, they moved west to Bellevue (today's Belleview), Jackson County, northeast Iowa. About 1848-49, they moved west to Bellevue (today's Belleview), Jackson County, northeast Iowa. By 1856, they had moved to near Pleasanton, Hamilton Township, Decatur County, southernmost Iowa (not far from the Missouri border), where Justus was listed as a carpenter in the 1870 census. Widowed at age 57, Mary moved by 1885 to Boulder, Colorado, to live with her unmarried son, railroad worker Clark Dunham (1849-1921) and youngest daughter, Almeda Dunham (b. 1863); they all appear at the same residence in the 1885 city directory. Mary & Clark appear in the federal census (June 1, 1900) living in Clark's mortgaged home at 1608 23rd St. (at Grove), where she soon died. As reported in the Boulder News (Aug. 13, 1900, pg. 1; and Aug. 16, 1900, pg. 1), Mary -- who was suffering from angina pectoris (heart disease) -- awoke the day before her 76th birthday, and summoned her daughter to help select her funeral clothing! Mary had heard her mother calling her, and predicted her death that day; she died that afternoon, on Aug. 12, 1900. Son Clark later moved back to his native Iowa, where he appears in the 1920 census living with his half-sister Elizabeth (Dunham) Platter, in Jasper County.
