Description	:	Mary E. Martson, was born on November 6, 1928 (election day) in Canon City, Colorado to Elza Hargraves Grantham and Clara Jane Osborn Grantham. Our beloved Mother and Grandmother went to be with the Lord on February 5th, 2022. She accepted the Lord at a Big Tent Revival close to the South Bridge in Canon City, Colorado. She was the 4th child of 8 children. The kids hoe'd the garden, picked asparagus, cherries and apples. They canned fruits and vegetables to help get them through the winter. Martson, was born on November 6, 1928 (election day) in Canon City, Colorado to Elza Hargraves Grantham and Clara Jane Osborn Grantham. Our beloved Mother and Grandmother went to be with the Lord on February 5th, 2022. She accepted the Lord at a Big Tent Revival close to the South Bridge in Canon City, Colorado. She was the 4th child of 8 children. The kids hoe'd the garden, picked asparagus, cherries and apples. They canned fruits and vegetables to help get them through the winter. She loved her family dearly. Grandpa Grantham traded apples for an old violin which Mom practiced faithfully. Her father gave her a pair of red shoes that she loved so much that she wore them to bed. Mom graduated from Ordway High School in 1947. While in High School, Martha Runnells invited Mom and Jacque Winnegar Davis to join her husband and son Garth to live and work for them at the Gambles Store in Ordway. Colorado. They attended High School during the day, ate lunch at the Runnells' house and rushed back to school. If they were running late, Mom and Jacque would hang on to Garth's belt loop and run to try to make it back in time for school. Mom also attended Miracle Book Club which had a big impact on her life. Mom, Jacque and Garth became lifelong friends. Mom graduated from Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills Alberta, Canada in 1951. She hoe'd weeds during the summer at the School's huge vegetable garden to help pay for school. My mom had a love for Linguistics and studied at Oklahoma University. She was accepted by Wycliffe Bible Translators and rode by train and rickety bus to Chiapas, Mexico to train at a Jungle camp. They made palm leaf shelters, slept in hammocks, cooked over bonfires, swam the river, shot the rapids, hiked 25 miles to a Myan ruins and swatted mosquitoes. She had more linguistics training for 6 months at a Peruvian home in Lima and then flew to Bolivia. Mom and Fran MacNeil were assigned to the Movimas, a jungle tribe in Northern Bolivia where the highways were rivers. Mom and Fran transferred to the highlands to write primers and teach the Aymaras to read. They possessed the New Testament but could not read it. In the pilot classes that followed, the pupils could read in three weeks due to the one symbol representing one sound. Ada Judson was very much a part of the mission work with my mom and Fran in South America. Mom came back to the states and met Howard Martson, a skinny lovable guy who worked at a serviceman's center with her brother Norman Grantham in Columbia, South Carolina. My Father was an Orphan who dearly loved the Lord, Loved his sister Violet Martson Owens Moyers and loved his brother Stanley Martson and their spouses and children. My Father was a Navy Man who served on an amphibious unit in the South Pacific in W.W II. After the war, Howard enjoyed building homes with his brother Stanley in Southern California. Mom and dad attended Bob Jones University where my mother studied secondary education to get her qualification to teach. Mom graduated with a BA in 1961. Howard Andrew Martson and Mary Elizabeth Grantham Martson married August 28, 1961. They moved to Montpelier, Idaho to work in the church and started a family between the years of 1961 to 1966 - Samuel Andrew and Joy Elizabeth were born in Montpellier, Idaho, Joanna Jane was born in Twin Falls, Idaho and John Paul was born in Farmington, New Mexico. They later moved to Riverton, Wyoming, Farmington, New Mexico and Del Norte, Colorado to continue work in the Church. They later moved back to Ordway, Colorado where my mom taught 1st grade at Ordway Baptist Christian School. Mom was so proud of her students and all their accomplishments. Mom and Dad took care of her father, Elza Grantham for about 12 years until his death in 1986. My Father developed a lung disease which lasted a couple years before God took him home to Heaven July 4, 2003. Mom dedicated the rest of her life to her kids and grandkids. She wants each kid and grandkid to know the Lord. My mom also wanted to be useful. She sewed quilts, upholstered furniture, tended kids, hoe'd weeds, baked bread and made jam. She took care of my kids for 10 years and stayed with us for another 8 years. During that time she also stayed with Joanna and went to Johnny's house on Sundays. Sam was faithful to frequently call her and check in on her. We all would do anything for her. Grandma/Mom loved her family so much. We are so sad to see her go but know she is with Jesus and her loved ones that have gone on before. We will be forever grateful for an amazing mother and grandmother that gave us a Godly heritage and wonderful example. My Mom's lifelong goal was to reach people for Jesus and she wants all of her loved ones to know the Lord. By Jesus' great sacrifice and mercy, we can have a glorious reunion up there. Much of this Obituary is from the life stories of Mary Martson. A celebration of life service will be Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ordway Baptist Church with Pastor Don Parker officiating. Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
