Mary was born on August 26, 1926 in Morning Sun, Iowa to the late Frank and Myrtle (Mehaffy) Steele. She married Dean Ewing on March 29, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Ohio with her new husband, and he preceded her in death on October 16, 2008. Mary is survived by her children: JL (Deborah) Ewing of Findlay, Eileen (MJ Heck) Ewing of Madison, Wisconsin, Diane (Steven) Box of Byesville, Ohio and Denise (Roger) Keeran of Findlay; grandchildren: Anika Midge (Brad Brown) Ewing, John Luke Ewing, Thomas Brantt Ewing, Susan (Jared) Luginbill, Megan (Casey) Leichty, Joel (Ann Marie) Box, Nicolas Box and Emily (Jordan) Browning, great-grandchildren: Alicia, David, Bailey, Patience, Ella, Jerry, Morgan (Trey), Lainey, Adelyn, Benjamin, Josiah, Avery, Dean, Ezekiel, Louise, James and Josephine; great-great grandchildren: Ryker, Gavin, RJ, Sahara, Cooper and Hyde; and her brother Robert (Helene) Steele, of Stamford, Connecticut, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson Jimmy Brown. Mary was a graduate of Stafford High School, Stafford, Kansas and went to the St. Louis University where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Radiologic Technology. She retired from the Blanchard Valley Hospital as an X-Ray technician in 1990 after 26 years of service. Mary was an active member of the McComb Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Elder and sang in the choir. She served 45 consecutive years on the McComb Library Board where many of those years were served as President. Mary was also a member of the D.A.R. and Philomath Club and enjoyed ballroom dancing and going to engine shows with her husband, Dean. Mary was an avid china painter and excellent seamstress. A Public graveside Service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2020 at 12Noon in the McComb Union Cemetery, with her grandson, John Luke Ewing, officiating. Mary’s service will be livestreamed on the Hanneman Funeral Home Findlay & McComb Facebook page for those who can’t attend. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Hanneman Funeral Home, 370 Park Dr. S., McComb, Ohio 45858. Memorial contributions may be gifted to the McComb Public Library. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, coming to the service may be a challenge. The family understands the necessity and importance of personal safety.
