A little more than a week prior to her death she was brought home in an ambulance from Verona, Ohio, where she had been for many weeks, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lee Stamm, who was no longer able to take care of her. Read More	"The Hagerstown (IN) Exponent, Thursday July 28, 1921 Mrs. Mary Raffe passed away Friday,, at her home on West Walnut street, where she has resided many years. A little more than a week prior to her death she was brought home in an ambulance from Verona, Ohio, where she had been for many weeks, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lee Stamm, who was no longer able to take care of her. L. W. Teetor, elder of her church and friend of the family was then entrusted with the care of Mrs. Raffe and the oversight of her business affairs. He immediately secured a nurse and by the aid of women of the church, everything possible for her comfort was done. She gradually grew weaker and as the end drew near, which came about 4:30 a.m., he expressed her desire to see her children. Funeral services were held at the Church of the Brethren Sunday morning. Elder L. W. Teetor delivered the sermon, taking for his subject 'The Christian Victory and Crown,' and the text 2 Tim. 4;6,7,and 8. Elder F. E. Hay and Elder O. D. Werking assisted in the services. The following songs were rendered: 'Rock of Ages,' 'Nearer My God to Thee,''Shall We Meet Beyond the River,' and at the grave 'Sweetly Sleep Till that Morning.' The pall bearers were Frank E. Hay, Isaiah Teetor, Clarence Foutz, James Innis, H. H. Johnsonbaugh and Arthur Hoover. Mrs. Lee Stamm, Mr. and Mrs.Levi Rinehart, of Verona, Ohio, and a number of other relatives attended the funeral. OBITUARY Mary, daughter of Joseph and Susannah Eikenberry, was born Oct. 30, 1857, in Preble County, Ohio, and died July 22, 1921, at her home in Hagerstown, Indiana, aged 83 years, 8 months and 22 days. In 1853, after her father's death, she moved with her mother to Wells County, Indiana. Here, in June, 1854, she was married to Andrew J. Sparks. To them were born seven children, two of whom died in youth. At the age of 19 years she joined the Church of the Brethren. About 1860 her husband was elected to the ministry. In 1873 he died. October 12, 1886, she was married to Edward Raffe, a deacon in the Nettle Creek congregation. In April 1896, he died. She continued her church membership here the rest of her life. Sister Raffe was much devoted to the church. She always tried to live consistent with her profession, and was naturally gifted in public prayer. She requested that her love be given to all the members. Several times, in her sicknesses, she requested the anointing of James 5:14, which was administered. It was her custom to have visiting ministers to pray with her in her home. She greatly appreciated, and richly enjoyed all manner of church services. She leaves to mourn, five children: three sons, Josiah, of Ontario, California, Jasper, of Lewiston, Idaho and Ira, of El Centro, California and two daughters, Mrs. Lydia Mast, of Holmesville, Nebraska, and Mrs. Nora Stamm, of Verona, Ohio, together with a number of grand child ren and great grand children."
