Thanks for any help I/we can get! ~~~~~~~ Obituary of Mrs. John Logsdon, Funeral Last Sunday Evening Mary Elizabeth Hayward, daughter of James Ingals Hayward and Betsy Bruce Hayward was born in Massachusetts, April 19, 1854, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dow Cravens near Arbela, Missouri, January 24, 1930, aged 75 years, 9 months, and 5 days. While quite young she moved with her parents to Iowa, a short time later they removed to Scotland County where she grew to womanhood where she received her education. At the age of 12 years she was converted and joined the United Brethren Church and later transferred her membership to the Methodist Church in Arbela. She lived a consistent christian life all these years and was faithful and loyal to her church at all times. She was united in marriage with Henry Wiley, January 30, 1873, to this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Winifred May Dieterich of St. Petersburg, Florida and Mrs. Bertha Cravens of Arbela, Missouri. Her husband, Mr. Wiley was deceased January 17, 1888. Again on September 6, 1888, she entered into matrimony to the Rev. John W. Logsdon, who preceded her in death, August 10, 1917. She was amiable in disposition, devoted to the home, and loved ones, industrious, ambitious for the highest ideals, zealous for good works, in home, church, and the community. The same may be said of her as was said of one of the old, "She hath done what she could." Among her most prized treasures was a copy of the following prayer which was written by her mother, who was possessed of considerable ability as a writer and which seemed to express the deep desires of her own heart. "Oh most merciful God, cast me not off in time of old age, forsake me not if thy strength faileth, preserve me from dotage and imbecility, and from protracted pain. Deliver me from despondency in my declining years and enable me to bear with patience whatsoever may be thy Holy Will, and I most humbly ask that my sense, continue to the last, that I may be so comforted, and supported as to leave my testimony of the reality of religion and of thy faithfulness in fulfilling thy gracious promise." Besides the daughters she leaves to mourn their loss, three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two brothers, J. Luther Hayward of Rutledge, Missouri and William F. Hayward of Memphis, Missouri, and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral was held in the Methodist Church at Arbela, on Sunday January 26, at 10 a.m. and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Custer, assisted by a double quartet of mixed voices of the church choir. Gutting Brothers, undertakers were the funeral directors. A large concourse of sorrowing neighbors and friends were in attendance. Relatives from a distance were a grandson, W. H. Dieterich of Wisconsin and a nephew, H. M. Beabout of Sharon Springs, Kansas.
