She raised children by both husbands. obit supplied by: Judy Hochhalter Mary was born August 4, 1893 in South Russia to Jacob and Eva (Adams) Brunz and died March 7, 1987 at the Rosebud Nursing Home in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 93 years, 7 months and 3 days. In 1901 Mary came with her parents to America and they settled in the Naper, Nebraska area. On February 6, 1911 Mary was united in marriage to George Hochhalter at Zion Lutheran Church in Carlock, South Dakota. To this union ten children were born. George passed away on December 21, 1934. In 1938 she married William Pfaff and to this union one daughter was born. They made their home in the Herrick community until retiring in 1957 when they moved to Gregory. William Pfaff died on March 10, 1962. Mary was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith to which she remained faithful all her life. She spent the last eight years of her life in the Rosebud Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, three brothers, one daughter, Alma and four step children. Mary is survived by six daughters, Amelia Klug of Burke, South Dakota, Hilda Engelgau of Portland, Oregon, Inez Bjorkman of Ontario, California, Dorothy Elsasser of Portland, Oregon, Marlis Herrmann of Herrick, Ruby Kahler of Sioux City, Iowa, four sons, Ralph of Salt Lake City, Utah, Victor of Santa Monica, California, Charles of Fresno, California, Melvin of Tempe, Arizona, 23 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Emil, two sister-in-laws, five step children and a host of other relatives and friends.
