BELOVED VICTOR RESIDENT DIES MONDAY AFTERNOON Friends and neighbors were sadden Monday afternoon when it became known that Mrs Mary Ross had passed away shortly after noon. She had enjoyed fairly good health despite her years until last week when she suffered a stroke which was the direct cause of her death. She was one of Victor's "grand old ladies" who enjoyed nothing more than visits from her many friends. She will be remembered long in the community for those many kind acts which she so liberally proffered in her younger days and for the sweet personality which she radiated in her later days. Hers was a long, busy life, full and overflowing. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock by the Rev J J Pritchard. Music was provided by Mrs Forrest Shaull and Hollis Fish who sang two selection accompanied by Mrs Vern Ocheltree. Burial was in the IOOF (Victor Memorial) Cemetery. The Pall bearers were Ed and Lee McAdams, Frank Michalek, J P Lawlor, S U Mussetter and E L Lawton. LIFE SKETCH Mary Elizabeth Kingon was born in Philadelphia, PA February 25, 1855 and passed away at her home in Victor, Iowa March 15, 1943 at the age of 88 years and 19 days. She moved with her parents in early childhood to Chicago, Illinois where she lived until her marriage. She was married to Samuel Steffy Ross on October 25, 1872 in the First M E Church of that city. To this union two children were born; Gertrude Elizabeth and Park B, both of Victor and who are left to mourn her loss. Other surviving relatives are her sister Mrs Edward Plows of Chicago, Ill and one brother, Alfred Kingon of Dallas, Texas; also four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs Ross came to Victor after her marriage and spent most of her life in this vicinity. She was one of the oldest members of the Victor Methodist Church, having transferred her membership to this church December 1, 1889 during the pastorate of the Rev W A Swain, SR She was also a charter member of the Ladies Aid Society and a very faithful worker as long as she was physicall able. She was regular in her attendance upon the worship services of the church and set an example of loyalty and devotion that others might well emulate.
