Description	:	Daughter of Reuben Leonard and Sarah Acord Mary Elizabeth Leonard, born in 1840, March 10th, at Straitsville, Pery Co., Ohio, when 14 years old came with her parents to Boscobel, Grant Co., Wis., and was married to Calvin W. Girton, of Galena, Illinois, August 2nd, 1860, at her home, and went to his home at Galena, Ill., at which place they resided three years, and from there they removed to Cedar Falls, Iowa, at which place they lived fifteen years, and in 1877, they moved to Magnolia, Harrison Co., Iowa, where she spent the remaining years of her life,... Girton, of Galena, Illinois, August 2nd, 1860, at her home, and went to his home at Galena, Ill., at which place they resided three years, and from there they removed to Cedar Falls, Iowa, at which place they lived fifteen years, and in 1877, they moved to Magnolia, Harrison Co., Iowa, where she spent the remaining years of her life, living on the home farm 23 years, and died March 8th 1903, at 10 o’clock a.m. Mrs. Girton was the mother of 13 children - 12 sons and one daughter, the daughter died in infancy, Charles died at the age of 6 years; Albert D, served 3 years in the late war, returned to his home, and only lived a short time, his death occurring two years ago last November. Ten grown sons remain, all married but the three youngest, the husband and father having died on Nov. 8th, 1899, thus being three deaths in the family in three years. The deceased left 10 sons, the youngest being 21 years old; 26 grand children, 6 sisters and 3 brothers to mourn her departure. Six of her sons were at her bedside at the time of her death, and acted as pall bearers. Mrs. Girton died as she had lived, a devoted Christian, a kind mother, and good neighbor. She united with the Free Will Baptist church in her younger days, and after coming to this county, there being no Baptist church there at that time, she united with the Methodist and lived a consistent Christian life. Funeral sermon was preached at the M.E. Church in Magnolia at 11 o’clock, a.m., by Rev. Smith, her Pastor, and the body laid to rest beside her husband in Magnolia Cemetery.
