She had been awarded a life membership pin in the WSCS of the Methodist church for her many years of faithful service. Mary Elizabeth, better known as Lizzie Clark, was born Mary Elizabeth Fairchild October 28, 1883, at Beulah, Colorado, in Custer county [editor: was and is in Pueblo county]. She was the eldest child of Herman and Margaret [editor: (Van Patten)¹] Fairchild. At a very young age she moved with her parents to a homestead four miles northeast of Big Springs and in 1890 they moved to North river, locating near Belmar. She graduated from the county high school at Ogallala in 1903 and in 1907 she received her degree from Midland college at Fremont. She was a member of the Lewellen Methodist church. Mrs. Clark homesteaded on a Kincaid in 1906 and taught school for several years. In 1913 she was married to Wesley Clark [editor: May 18, 1913 at the Belmar schoolhouse¹] and to this union four children were born: Herman of Ogallala, Mrs. Mabel Messman and Mrs. Neva Richter of Kearney; and Mrs. Mary Beam of Lewellen. Also Majal Palmer of Sparks, Nevada, and Jack Knoell of Saratoga, Wyoming, a niece and nephew who resided with the Clarks during childhood. She was 83 years, 9 months of age and leaves to mourn her passing her husband; one sister, Mrs. H. A. Peterson of Keystone; four children, her grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and her many friends. Funeral services were Saturday, August 1 at 2 o'clock in the Lewellen Methodist church, the Rev. Phillip LaBue in charge. Vocalists were Harold Widner and Mrs. Howard Newkirk with Miss Caroline Nash at the organ. Pallbearers were James French, Dallas Rittenhouse, Merle Rittenhouse, Rudy Tilgner, Gilbert Berglund and Richard Kiel. Burial was in the Ash Hollow cemetery.
