Born in Purcellville, Virginia on March 28, 1922 she was a daughter of the late Carl and Helen Householder McArtor. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Henry Nottingham; four brothers, Eugene McArtor, Billy McArtor, Thomas Carl McArtor, Jr. and Walter "Mac" McArtor; three sisters, Evelyn McArtor, Louise Musselman and Katherine Boise; one great granddaughter, Kelli D. Frazier. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Melvin E. Thacker; two sisters, Pauline Demory of Stephens City, Doris Hobbs of Tocoma Park, MD and her brother, Welby McArtor and his wife Sandy of Pensacola, FL; two sons and their wives, Thomas P. Nottingham and his wife, Lois, of Charlottesville, Quinton G. Nottingham and his wife, Liz of Earlysville and one daughter, Mary E. Nottingham of Waynesboro; three step children, Cindy Fletcher and her husband, Steve of Walkersville, MD, Pollyann Darling and her husband, Carl of Edgewater, FL, and Kenneth Thacker of Leesburg; six grandchildren, Karen Wessels and her husband, Matt of Houston, GA, Kimberly Bergin of Richmond, Lisa Frazier and her husband, Greg of Charlottesville, Brian Nottingham and his wife, Christa of Charlottesville, Matthew B. Nottingham of Earlysville and Stephen A. Nottingham of Pasadena, MD; two step grandchildren, Melissa Fletcher and Michael Fletcher of Walkersville, MD; four great grandchildren, Jackie Savage of Charlotte, NC, Ashley Nottingham, Sara Nottingham and Bryston Frazier of Charlottesville. Mary enjoyed life and particularly enjoyed spending time with her extended family. She had previously been a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Afton and was also an active member for many years in the Church of the Blue Ridge in Afton where she and Melvin have made friends for life. Mary's greatest joy and the legacy she leaves is her family. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Her life was blessed in many ways; her family will continue to celebrate her and keep her memory forever in their hearts. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Church of the Blue Ridge in Afton with Rev. Whitney Critzer, cousin of the family, officiating. Interment will follow at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow at the Church of the Blue Ridge.
