Read More	Melvin Egbert Thacker, 89, of Afton, VA and formally of Lucketts, VA, the owner and operator of Thacker Excavating died July 18, 2019 at INOVA Loudoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Leesburg, VA. He was born August 10, 1929 in Lovingston, VA, the son of the late William Paulie Thacker and Lillian Grace (Massie) Thacker. Melvin spent his youth in Lovingston, and later moved to Lucketts, VA before returning to Nelson County and residing in Afton, VA. He was a deacon for many years at Faith Chapel Presbyterian Church in Lucketts and later a faithful member of both Hebron Baptist Church and Church of the Blue Ridge, both of Afton, VA. Melvin was well known for his participation, dedication, and support of the newly organized Lucketts Volunteer Fire Department in the 1960’s. His legacy of always “lending a helping hand” and “being there” for those who had a need followed him in each of these communities, also an extension of his love for all of his family. Many will remember Melvin (Pop) as a lover of “fishing on the James”. He was pre-deceased by his wife Mary E. Nottingham Thacker and daughter Pollyann Lea Thacker Darling. Also his sisters Margaret Beale, Bernice Critzer, Mildred Toms, Elizabeth Pendergast, and brothers Robert (Bob) Thacker, Lester Peyton Thacker, and Harry Tate Thacker. He is survived by his son Kenneth Thacker (Tammara) and daughter Cindy Thacker Fletcher (Steve). Also surviving are his step-children, Thomas Nottingham (Lois), Quinton Nottingham (Elizabeth), and Mary Nottingham. Melvin has been blessed with grandchildren Michael Fletcher, Melissa Fletcher Burzen, Lisa Frazier, Brian Nottingham, Steven Nottingham, Matthew Nottingham, and Kim Nottingham Bergin; also 4 great-grandchildren. Very close to his heart were his nieces and nephews Betty (Neal) Shawn, Joyce (Roger) Mays, Carolyn (Don) Montgomery, James (Ann) Toms, Paul (Lorie) Pendergast, Steve Lawson, Kim Lawson, Wendell Lawson, Jeff Lawson, Keith Lawson, Randy Keys, Reid Keys, and Rachael Keys Viar. The family will receive friends at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro, VA on Wed., July 24 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 25 at McDow Funeral Home at 11 am with burial to follow at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Danny McAllister and Rev. Billy Coffey will conduct the service. We would like to thank the staff of Blue Ridge Christian Home and INOVA Long Term Care and Rehabilitation Center for their loving and dedicated care over many years.
