Description	:	Mary Elizabeth Ritchie married Jonathan Porter Jr and they made their home in Scranton, Greene Co., Iowa. In 1879 a son was born to the couple, and was named Clinton A., but only lived a few months, passing away in 1880. In 1882 a 2nd son was born and was named Lewis E., and he also only lived a short life, living until 1883. The sadness must have overwhelmed John and Mary because they moved westward with other members of the family and started a new home in Ovid, Sedgewick Co., Colorado. There, in Dec of 1888 a 3rd child was born to them, this time a daughter. She was named Alma Anna who lived until adulthood and married Gustaf Robert Herfert at the family home near Ovid, Colorado. Alma and Gus lived their lives in Sedgwick County, Colorado. They were the parents of two daughters, Mary Alma and Helen Roberta, and six grandchildren. Jonathan and Mary lived out their lives near Ovid, Colorado, but after their deaths they wanted to be buried near their sons, in Scranton, Iowa.
