Vance, passed away at the family home north of Eddyville in Harrison Township on Saturday, May 6th, 1916, aged eighty-four years, nine months, and five days. Mary Elizabeth Stanley was born August 1, 1831, in the state of Ohio and moved to Iowa during the war. She was united in marriage May 17th, 1866 to James E. Vance Mary E. Vance widow of the late J. E. Mary Elizabeth Stanley was born August 1, 1831, in the state of Ohio and moved to Iowa during the war. She was united in marriage May 17th, 1866 to James E. Vance, who with two daughters Jessie and Ettie, have gone on before. She leaves to mourn her loss one daughter, Mrs. Maggie Belzer, one grandchild, Leonard Belzer and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the home two and one-half miles north of town at two o'clock Monday afternoon. Rev. J. L. Jones, the Congregational pastor, officiating. A large crowd of sorrowing friends were present to pay their last respects to the departed. Interment was made in Highland Cemetery.
