Read More	Obituary: Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Burns know to her family and friends as Lizzie was a life-long resident of Iowa. She was born in Elkhart Township, in Polk County and was married and reside most of her life in this community. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Woods, who were pioneer farmers in the White Oak neighborhood. Lizzie was married to Albert P. Burns, a resident of the neighborhood in wherein she lived. They began their married life on a farm southwest of Elkhart. They later bought a farm a mile west of Elkhart and resided there for nearly forty years. Mr. Burns passed away in 1924, and since then Mrs. Burns has made her home with her children, the last eight or ten years with her daughter, Mrs. Ted McHone in White oak. She celebrated her eightieth birthday last May. To Mr. and Mrs. Burns were born nine children, all of whom survive her except their first-born who died in three days. In the order of their birth they are: James A, of Plainesville, Ohio; Mary A. McHone of Elkhart; Sarah A. Stewart of Kerkhoven, Minn.; Ethel J. Van Gundy of Centuria, Wisconsin; J. grant of Elkhart; A. Perry of Des Moines, Erma S. McDole of West Allis, Wis.; and Pearle E. Gill of Lakeland, Florida. Mrs. Burns was one of a quite a large family of children all of whom she survived, except a brother, A. R. Woods of Cambridge, Iowa. Several grandchildren and even great grandchildren are left after her. She was of a retiring disposition and never assumed positions of leadership in the community. It was rather in the bosom of her family and in the quite effects of her life and character that she exercised her influence and made her contribution. A little incident will well illustrate this. A teacher in Sunday school asked her class of children of eight or ten years, after whom they should pattern their lives, expecting them to reply "Jesus" but their answer was "Grandma Burns." In her family and among her friends she will be missed, yet all rejoice in having her with us so long and our memories of her will linger in our minds and hearts. She has gone out from our midst into the victorious heritage that a waits all who follow our Lord Jesus Christ.
