Read More	Progress Review, La Porte City, Iowa Thursday, September 27, 1951, Page 1 Last Rites For Mrs. Al Igou Held Monday Death Came Suddenly Friday at Her Home; Burial in West View Mrs. Al Igou, long time and well-known resident of La Porte City, was taken by death unexpectedly Friday evening at 6 o’clock. Mrs. Igou died in her home on Monroe St. following only an hour’s illness. She was 86 years old. As Mary Ellen Bagenstos she was born to John and Elizabeth (Helm) Bagenstos, December 11, 1864 at Brooklyn, Iowa. When a young girl she came to La Porte City with her parents and completed her education in the local school. On July 3, 1889 she married Albert Igou at La Porte City, who died December 26, 1947. She was also preceded by one son, Harold, who died at the age of 16 and by four brothers and three sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Left to mourn her passing are two daughters, Mrs. Beth Schneider, Greeley and Mrs. Lloyd Yarrington, Waterloo; two grandchildren, Dean Yarrington of Minneapolis and Mrs. Walter Schwartz of Miltonville, Kansas and one great grandchild. Assisted in Store Mrs. Igou assisted her husband for many years in operating a store in La Porte City. She had been a member of the Methodist church since her youth and attended its services regularly. Last rites were held Monday afternoon at the Johannsen Funeral home by Rev. Oliver Jensen, pastor of the Methodist church. Clifford Burr, accompanied by Mrs. Burr, sang “Rock of Ages” and “Jesus, Lover of My Soul.” Casket Bearers were Harry Kline, Dr. L.F. Bailey, Cecil Gates, Charles Kocher, H.R. Merchant and Nelson Osborn. Burial was made in the family lot in West View cemetery.
