Daughter of William Bryant Campbell and Emeline Cottrell Talbott OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, December 27, 1945 MARY BUTRUM Mary Ellen Campbell, daughter of William and Emaline Campbell, was born at Sully, Iowa, February 25, 1859, and passed away at Chariton, Iowa, Dec. 2, 1945, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 27 days. She grew to young womanhood at Jasper county, one of a family of eight, all of whom have preceded her in death. On February 25, 1886 she was united in marriage to John W. Butrum at Newton, Iowa. To them were born two children, Bertha Umbenhower, of Russell and Clifford Butrum, of Pleasantville. She is survived by the two children, five grandchildren, George, Paul, Elaine, Mary Ann and Harold Butrum, one great-grandchild, Evelyn Louise Butrum, and several nieces and nephews. She was converted at the age of 17 and was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. She loved to work in the church as long as her health permitted and taught Sunday school for years. Her Bible has been a comfort and she often spoke of the day she would go to meet her Lord. She was a wonderful mother, a grand neighbor and to know her was to love her. Funeral services, in charge of the Rev. A. E. Beals, were held Monday, Dec. 24, at 1:00 p.m. at the Beardsley funeral chapel. Burial was in Coal Glen cemetery.
