Description	:	Mary Ellen Clarkson was born at Magnolia, Rock County, Wisconsin on February 27, 1849, daughter of John Clarkson and Nancy Jane Proctor. While a young girl she became a member of the United Brethren church, later transferring her membership to the M.E. church of Randall, Kansas. She received her higher education at the Evansville Seminary, in Evansville, Wisconsin and spent several years teaching school. She united in marriage to her childhood neighbor, Millard Kibbe, at Albany, Wisconsin on April 22, 1869. Read More	Mary Ellen Clarkson was born at Magnolia, Rock County, Wisconsin on February 27, 1849, daughter of John Clarkson and Nancy Jane Proctor. While a young girl she became a member of the United Brethren church, later transferring her membership to the M.E. church of Randall, Kansas. She received her higher education at the Evansville Seminary, in Evansville, Wisconsin and spent several years teaching school. She united in marriage to her childhood neighbor, Millard Kibbe, at Albany, Wisconsin on April 22, 1869. In the spring of 1872, they came to Kansas and settled on the homestead northwest of Randall where they resided. To this union were born two sons and one daughter: Charles Elmo Kibbe, Jesse Fredrick Kibbe and Emma Lillian Kibbe (aka Lillie E. Mann). They also took into their home and loved as a daughter, Susan Marie Hare. Mary Kibbe was very active in her church activities, teaching Sunday school and was a member of Rebekah Lodge in Randall. Kibbe" by Dora Fitch Phillippi "...Among the early pioneer settlers, she struggled through the years of drought and scant privileges, seemingly always hopeful and with a wonderful faith in her Bible, her church and her God. To my immature childish mind she stood for a culture which helped to form ideals for my own future. She had been privileged to attend an academy in her young womanhood; she had purchased for herself a melodeon which she could play and with which she sang in a fine clear voice. That musical instrument is still in the home where she last lived, a treasured heirloom. Among the things she brought to her prairie home was a bound volume of Godey's Ladies' Book, which, with it's fashion plates of the late 60's and 70's, and it's censored fiction, I, too, enjoyed. Thus are the ideals of one generation passed on to the next, and I am glad I lived neighbor to Mrs. Kibbe and had her friendship through the years. Her children are blessed in her memory."
