Description	:	The funeral service for Mrs. J. F. Porter, who passed away at her home in this city last Thursday following a stroke of paralysis, was held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon and was attended by a large concourse of neighbors. The members of the Adult Bible Class of the Methodist church, of which she was a faithful member, attended the service in a body. Mary Ellen Houston was born in Delaware county, Iowa, on August 11th, 1857. In this county she grew to young womanhood and on February 16, 1882, she was married to J. F. Porter, whose joys and trials she shared for over forty years. In the spring of 1887 they moved to Boone county where they have since resided and where it has been their privilege to rear their family and to enjoy the fellowship of a host of friends. In her girlhood she united with the Baptist church. On coming to Nebraska she placed her membership with that of her husband in the Methodist church where she has shown her Christian character by a quiet Christian life. Prior to the mother’s death, there had been but one death in the family, that of the son, Ray E., whose funeral was held on the mother’s birthday seven years ago, the 11th day of this present month. There remain to mourn her death the husband, J. F. Porter, and the following children: Mrs. Frances Donaldson, Charles W., John A., Fred K., Bert V., Mrs. Mable Bowman, Ruby and May, four grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters. The funeral sermon was delivered by G. H. Main and the singing by a selected double quartet. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery. (Albion Weekly News – Albion, Nebraska – August 31, 1922)
