Harry Harkness and Fred Cones sang selected hymns. Burial was in the Burlingame Cemetery. Mary Ellen Jenkins, daughter of Joseph and Maria Jenkins, was born at French Lick, Orange County, Indiana, July 10, 1852, and died December 12, 1931, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Hepworth near Burlingame, aged 79 years, 5 months, and 2 day. Mary Ellen Jenkins, daughter of Joseph and Maria Jenkins, was born at French Lick, Orange County, Indiana, July 10, 1852, and died December 12, 1931, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Hepworth near Burlingame, aged 79 years, 5 months, and 2 day. She came with her parents to Osage County, Kansas, in 1872 and has been a resident here continuously since that date. On November 12, 1884, she was married to Albert G. Barnett. To this union were born seven children, two sons and five daughters, August D. of Osage City, Mrs. Minerva Shea of Larned, Kansas, now deceased, Joseph S., Mrs. Ethel Reiser, and Mrs. Earl Hepworth of Burlingame; Mrs. Emeline Henton, and Miss Jessie Barnett of Topeka. Her husband preceded her in death three years ago. She is survived by six children and twelve grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Hurst of Ottawa, Kansas and Mrs. Maggie Vangilder of Wichita, Kansas; and on brother, Joseph Jenkins of Emporia, Kansas; besides a host of relatives and friends who mourn the loss of one who has been a devoted mother and friend. Mrs. Barnett was one of the sufferers of the tornado that swept so disastrously across the country north of Burlingame four years ago. Although her home was not in the direct path of the storm much damage was done to the property and it required much fortitude to recover from the shock. Following her husband's death she has made her home most of the time with her children, and for some time past with her daughter, Mrs. Earl Hepworth and family. A pioneer in Kansas and a resident of 59 years in this community Mrs. Barnett experienced the burdens and heat of the early struggles as well as many of its compensations and lived to see the fruition of many of her hopes.
