Our people were shocked Thursday morning when the word was given out that Mrs. Allen (Ellen) Hubbard had been found dead in bed, having passed away from heart trouble some time during Wednesday night. Her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Campbell, and children were staying in the home at the time. Mr. Hubbard passed away a little more than two months ago. Mrs. Campbell continued to stay with her mother until about two weeks ago, when they went to New Hampton to join the husband, who has work at that place. Since that time Mrs. Hubbard lived alone but her grandchildren were with her of nights quite frequently as they attend school here. Mrs. Hubbard was alone Wednesday night and talked over the phone to her daughter, Mrs. Ben Lacy, and expressed herself as feeling pretty well. As is the usual custom, the children always called their mother if they could not go to see her in person. On Thursday morning, about 8:45 o'clock after repeated efforts of a daughter, Mrs. Loyd Huit, to get any answer from her mother over the phone, she called a near neighbor, Mrs. Lydia McCormick, who knowing Mrs. Hubbard's condition, was quite attentive to her. A son, Delmar Hubbard, had just arrived at the home of his mother about the same time Mrs. McCormick started from her home, and the doors being locked, they feared the worst. Delmar burst the door in and going to the door of the bedroom where his mother had retired for the night, spoke "Mother," with no response, and on going to her bedside and gently laying his hand on mother's shoulder, found that the lips were silent and her soul had passed to the God who gave it. Dr. W. A. Broyles was hurriedly summoned and expressed his belief that she had passed away about midnight. Short funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Wallace, pastor of the Christian church, where the deceased held membership. The body was interred by the side of her husband in the family lot in the Hobbs cemetery. An obituary will be given later. --- Bethany Republican, January 12, 1927 Obituary Mary E. Hubbard, daughter of Eli (sic: Ezra) and Mary Roach, was born September 26, 1863 and departed this life November 18, 1926 at the age of 63 years, one month and 21 days. Mary E. Roach was united in marriage to Luther S. Hubbard February 21, 1881. To this union seven children were born. Two, Mrs. Rosa Kish and Mrs. Elva Hale, preceded her to the great beyond, and her husband also preceded her just 49 days. Those left to mourn her departure are four daughters, Mrs. Anna Bensyl, Mrs. Pearl Huit, Mrs. Hattie Lacy, Mrs. Goldie Campbell, one son Delmer Hubbard and nineteen grandchildren, sisters and brothers, and many friends. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard moved from a farm near Hobb's Chapel and located in Eagleville some 23 years ago. They resided there ever since. Mrs. Hubbard had been in failing health since the death of her husband, until God said "thats enough" and bade her come. The funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock conducted by the Rev. Wallace, pastor of the Christian Church where the deceased held membership. The body was laid beside her husband in the family lot in Hobbs Cemetery
