MARY REGUR PASSED AWAY SUNDAY Mary Emily Regur, daughter of Henry H. and Lucy Disbrow, was born at Keosauqua, Iowa, April 23, 1882 and passed away at her home in Keosauqua at noon on December 10, 1939, aged 57 years, 7 months and 17 days having lived all of her life in the community of her birth. MARY REGUR PASSED AWAY SUNDAY Mary Emily Regur, daughter of Henry H. and Lucy Disbrow, was born at Keosauqua, Iowa, April 23, 1882 and passed away at her home in Keosauqua at noon on December 10, 1939, aged 57 years, 7 months and 17 days having lived all of her life in the community of her birth. On March 6, 1904 she was united in marriage to Joseph N. Regur. To this union four sons were born, three of whom survive, on son Robert Eugene having passed away in infancy. A number of years ago, she with her family united with the Keosauqua Congregational church where she maintained her membership until the time of her death. She was also a member of the Degree of Honor and the local Needlecraft club. Although not physically able to attend the meetings she delighted having the club meet with her in her home whenever possible. Mrs. Regur has been in failing health for the last 17 years most of which time she has been confined to her wheel chair. She had a rare courage and her illness became to her a kind of cross which she bore bravely and cheerfully. Like Paul she discovered that thought the "thorn" might not be removed God gave sufficient grace to bear it and she learned "in whatsoever state she was there in to be content." She was the soul of patience and across the years, thought at times her suffering was intense, no word of complaint or murmur of rebellion ever crossed her lips. She loved people, enjoyed company and was deeply appreciative of every kindness shown to her. Perhaps no woman in the community had a wider circle of friends or was more deeply loved than Mary Regur. Her friendly spirit, her cheery good will and her ready smile won for her a place in the hearts of all who knew her. She loved Keosauqua and was keenly interested in all that concerned the community. From her window she watched the people as they passed; older folks, young people, little children and for each one she had a friendly smile and a cheery word of greeting as she took them to her heart and shared their joys and sorrows. Her life was a ministry of good will and good cheer. Her room was a sanctuary to which her friends came with their burden and cares and heartaches only to come away with the burden lifted, the cares lightened and the heartache eased. It was easier to face life with new courage after seeing how bravely and cheerfully she bore up under her affliction. She is survived by her husband, and three sons, Donald of Oak Park, Ill., and Daniel D. and Herbert Eugene of Keosauqua, her mother, Mrs. Lucy Disbrow of Keosauqua and one sister Mrs. Jesse Sloan of Burlington, these together with a number of other relatives and a host of friends mourn her departure. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. C.H. Orf assisted by Rev. George McMican were held from the Burnett Funeral home in Keosauqua on Monday afternoon December 11, 1939. Interment was in Purdom cemetery.
