LUCY ELLEN DISBROW Lucy Ellen Moore, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Miller Moore, and the last of a family of seven children, was born Aug. 9, 1856, at Keosauqua, Iowa, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Sloan, Sr., at New London, Iowa, May 10, 1941, aged 94 years, 9 months and 1 day. LUCY ELLEN DISBROW Lucy Ellen Moore, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Miller Moore, and the last of a family of seven children, was born Aug. 9, 1856, at Keosauqua, Iowa, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Sloan, Sr., at New London, Iowa, May 10, 1941, aged 94 years, 9 months and 1 day. As a child she attended the Academy at Keosauqua where she received her early education. On Feb. 13 1868, she was united in marriage to Henry Morrison Disbrow. To this union seven children, four boys and three girls, were born, six of whom, Harriett, Elizabeth, Samuel, William, Mary E., Donald and Cleo preceded her in death. Mr. Disbrow passed away on Oct. 25, 1919, one year after they had celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. Mrs. Disbrow was a member of the Keosauqua Methodist church where she maintained an active interest as long as her health permitted. She was the oldest member of the Lund Chapter No. 27, Order of Eastern Star of Keosauqua, and also the oldest and last surviving member of the famous "War Time Glee Club," which was organized during the Civil war and gave concerts and performances for the benefit of the wounded and disabled soldiers. Aunt Lucy as she was lovingly known to her many friends, was one of the early pioneers of Van Buren county and enjoyed greatly taking part in the Old Settler's reunions and took special delight in planning for and in taking part in the Keosauqua Centennial celebration. She spent practically her entire life in Keosauqua where her husband was engaged in the Boot and Shoe business. During her later years she made her home with her daughters, Mrs. Mary Regur of Keosauqua and Mrs. Jessie Sloan of Burlington. Despite her advanced years she remained quite active and enjoyed fairly good health until within the last year she suffered a siege of pneumonia from which she never fully recovered. She was an ardent reader and maintained a keep interest in the affairs of the day. She was a good woman, a helpful neighbor and by her cheerful, friendly disposition and active good will won to herself a host of friends. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Jessie Sloan of New London, and two sons-in-law, Robert E. Sloan of New London and Joe N. Regur of Keosauqua, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three nieces, two nephews, a number of other relatives and a host of friends who mourn her departure. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. C.H. Orf, were held from the Burnett funeral home Monday, May 12.
