Description	:	DOBSON, NC ~ Mrs. Mary Emma Lewis Slawter, 77, of East Atkins Street, the widow of Ray Devern Slawter, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Slawter was born in Surry County June 7, 1924, the daughter of the late John Samuel and Ivory Marion Lewis. She retired from Spencer's Inc. after 37 years of service and was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. Read More	DOBSON, NC ~ Mrs. Mary Emma Lewis Slawter, 77, of East Atkins Street, the widow of Ray Devern Slawter, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Slawter was born in Surry County June 7, 1924, the daughter of the late John Samuel and Ivory Marion Lewis. She retired from Spencer's Inc. after 37 years of service and was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Jim Hewitt of Dobson; a granddaughter and spouse, Myra and Jaime Lewis of Dobson; a sister, Ivagene L. Cave of Dobson; a half-sister, Betty L. Payne of Boonville; three brothers, Victor Lewis of Dobson and Reuben Lewis and Delmar Lewis, both of Mount Airy; and five special nieces, Effie Marion of Mount Airy and Jessie Stewart, Lessie Brindle, Carol Bledsoe and Kathy Woodruff, all of Dobson. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Slawter was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Leigh Slawter; three sons, Larry Slawter, Elmer Ray "Buster" Slawter and Steven "Steve" Slawter; a sister, Alma L. Atkins; a half-sister, Linda Lewis; a brother, Howard Lewis; and a half-brother, Friel Lewis. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Kermit Gray. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Moody Funeral Home of Dobson. The family appreciates your concern and requests that food be omitted.
