Her obituary in The Buckeye State, Thursday, July 17, 1919. Mrs. Mary Rummel, wife of Willis Rummel of Humtown, near Columbiana, was found dead in bed early Saturday morning by Mrs. Ray Moore, a member of the household. Mrs. Rummel had arisen at 7 o'clock and had talked with members of the family who left her preparing to dress and come down to breakfast. Failing to appear after nearly an hour had elapsed, Mrs. Moore went to the room and found Mrs. Rummel lying across the bed. She had been dead about twenty minutes. For several months Mrs. Rummel had been in failing health, never fully regaining her Strength after undergoing a severe siege of the influenza last fall. Her obituary in the Columbiana Ledger, July 16, 1919. Sad indeed was the news Saturday morning that Mrs. Mary Etta, wife of Willis C. Rummel had passed away suddenly at the family home south of town. Mrs. Rummell had a severe attack of influenza last fall, the effects of which and a nervous breakdown is thought to have caused her death. She arose as usual Saturday morning, dressed and talked with members of the family from the top of the stairs saying she felt as well as usual and went back into her room. A few minutes later members went to her room and found her lying on the bed with life extinct. It had been planned to take her to Battle Creek, Michigan, Sunday for treatment for nervousness. Deceased was born February 14, 1870, on a farm near Greenford, the daughter of Abram and Elizabeth Culler. November 9, 1889, she was united in marriage with Willis Rummell and has since lived in this vicinity. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and a highly respected friend and neighbor. One daughter, Mrs. Ellsworth Miller, died a short time ago and her death preyed upon her mind to quite an extent. Of the immediate family she is survived by her husband and one grandson. Mrs. A. C. Roller of this place, is a sister. Funeral services from the home Monday were largely attended. Rev. Chalmer Cope of Youngstown, a nephew, was the officiating clergyman, and interment was had in the Columbiana Cemetery. All information provided by Richard Culler Dec 1, 2011.
