Description	:	Mary (Maria) Larkin was born in La Salle County, Illinois, on March 28, 1851. She was the oldest daughter of John Larkin and Ellen Ryan, natives of Ireland who settled in a farming area west of Streator, Illinois, that was largely populated by Irish immigrants. On February 8, 1875, she married John Jennett, the son of Irish immigrants Michael Jennett and Margaret Lawless. In 1876, her sister Ellen was married to John’s brother William. Read More	Mary (Maria) Larkin was born in La Salle County, Illinois, on March 28, 1851. She was the oldest daughter of John Larkin and Ellen Ryan, natives of Ireland who settled in a farming area west of Streator, Illinois, that was largely populated by Irish immigrants. On February 8, 1875, she married John Jennett, the son of Irish immigrants Michael Jennett and Margaret Lawless. In 1876, her sister Ellen was married to John’s brother William. John and Maria made their home initially in the small village of Garfield, in the same area where Maria was raised. John worked as a farmer school teacher and in November of 1876 he and Maria welcomed their first child, John Emmett. Nine more children were to follow. They lived in La Salle County until May of 1889, when they moved to John’s childhood home in Bureau County. Three years later, John and Maria decided to leave Illinois and headed west to Grafton, Nebraska, establishing their new home on a farm just west of Grafton. In 1901, John was diagnosed with stomach cancer. He died at a Lincoln, Nebraska, hospital on February 24, 1901. Maria continued to live on the farm until 1912. She then moved to a home in Grafton, where she remained until her death on July 7, 1937. Maria was survived by five sons, John Emmett, Oliver Larkin, Francis Joseph, Leo Michael and Arthur Hugh; five daughters, Ellen Clara (McGerr), Alice Maria (Real), Elizabeth Isabel, Katherine Agnes and Mary Magdeline; and 20 grandchildren. She was also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Frank Wilson of Vinton, Iowa, Mrs. Elizabeth Worthington of Joliet, Illinois, and Mrs. Katherine Kelly of Princeville, Illinois; and a brother, E.J. Larkin of Streator, Illinois. The funeral was conducted at St. Helen’s Church in Grafton on July 10, 1937. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Grafton.
