Mary Fern Purdy - Funeral services for Mrs. Floyd (Fern) Purdy, 88 were held Monday, September 27, at 1 p., at Trinity Wesleyan Church. Rev. Gary Brewster and Rev. Earl Miller Officiated. Mrs. Purdy died September 25 at the Golden Age Custodial Home at Brandon. She was born on April 21, 1888 at Ethan, South Dakota, the daughter of Alonzo F. and Lottie Howery Stephens. On April 1, 1906 she was united in marriage with Floyd Purdy at Brandon. The couple made their home at Tr. 1, La Porte City, Iowa. In addition to her husband she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Worth (Eulah) M. Cott of Waterloo, New York; Ilah Yarrington of Runnells, Iowa and Wanda Helgeson of La Porte City; one sister, Flo Fuller of Jesup; seven grandchildren, 22 great -grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald and Franklin Purdy; one sister Addie Cameron; and three brothers, Milo, Walter and Charles Stephens. Burial was at Spring Creek Cemetery near Jesup. Pallbearers were Walter Frankford Sr., Donald Purdy, Elwin Purdy, Robert Purdy, Dennis Purdy and Walter Frankford Jr. The Johannsen, Rossow, Dykeman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
