He died of a heart ailment Thursday morning (Oct. 1) at Covenant Medical Center at Kimball Avenue, Waterloo. He was born March 18, 1888, in Spring Creek Township, Black Hawk County, son of Charles and Laura Weaver Purdy. He married Mary F. Stephens on April 1, 1906, in Buchanan County. She died Sept. 25, 1976. He farmed in the area all of his life, and he was a faithful member of Emmanuel Wesleyan Chapel in Spring Creek Township. Survivors include three daughters, Eulah Cott of Kissimmee, Fla., Ilah Yarrington of DesMoines and Wandah Helgeson of LaPorte City; and seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren; He was preceded in death by two sons, Franklin and Donald; a sister, Josie Broad; and twin great-grandsons. Pallbearers were Elwin Purdy, Donald Purdy, Floyd Yarrington, Larry Yarrington, Kenneth Yarrington, and Walter Frankford. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today and 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Huisman Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
