Mary Fitz was born in Muskingum County, Ohio, October 16th, 1833, and departed this life at Woodstock, Minnesota, February 25th, 1918, at the home of her adopted daughter, Mrs. F.M. Stotts, at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 9 days. She was the only daughter [wrong!] of Henry and Jane Fitz. She was united in marriage to A.R. McRoberts in Linn Co., Iowa, September 12, 1855. Her husband preceeded her to the better world almost five years ago, passing away on March 13, 1913. Mr. and Mrs. McRoberts came to Greene county in an early day and settled on a farm southwest of town where they lived and prospered for many years. When enough of this world's goods had been accumulated to insure a life of comfort, they came to Churdan to spend their declining years, and were loved and honored by all who knew them. They were good citizens, friends and neighbors. Grandma McRoberts was a member of the Methodist at this place, having joined the church in early life, and when she was able was always in her place at the church services. Of late years she was not able to attend on account of poor health and old age. Mr. and Mrs. McRoberts lived in Churdan a good many years and were known to their host of friends as Aunt Mary and Uncle Russ. Mrs. McRoberts had been enjoying good health for one of her advanced years, and her death was a great shock to her friends here. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Methodist church in this city, conducted by the pastor Rev. J. F. Davis. The remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in our beautiful little cemetery.
