Description	:	Mary Frances (Butland) Bailey was born to Francis Lyman Butland and Mary Loise Bennett in Maine. After her father's death (Feb. 20, 1881) she and her sister Lillian came to Montana Territory with her mother. Her mother eventually settled in Bozeman,MT. Approximately 1883 Mary Frances married James H. Bailey. City directories and the 1885 school census indicate they were in Butte, Mt in 1885. In the 1900 census they were living in Lewistown, MT where James was a plasterer. In the 1900 census they were living in Lewistown, MT where James was a plasterer. Their children were Ernest (16 yrs, b.1884), Ethel May (15 yrs, b. 1885), Augusta Valerie (13 yrs, b. 1887), Myrtle L. (12 yrs, b. 1888), Pansy (10 yrs, b. 1889), James Archie (9 yrs, b. ~1891), Leonard (6 yrs, b. 1893), and Ralph (3 yrs, b. 1897). A newspaper article suggests that Mary's husband was active in the labor movement in Lewistown as late as 1903. Mary died in 1901 at about 35 years of age. Between 1905 and 1907 her children, Pansy and Leonard, were listed as having guardians in the school census. James H. Bailey purchased the burial plot for Mary indicating he survived her. He is listed as her husband in the cemetery records. In about 1904 Mary's husband married second Elizabeth Wright (a widow who previously lived in Centralia, WA per the 1900 census) and the 1910 census shows they lived in Post Falls, ID. Elizabeth & James had a son named Melvin. Elizabeth was listed as widowed by 1920 and was again living in Centralia, WA (per 1920 census) with Melvin. By 1925 James married a third time to Julia Etta (Parker) Van Blaricom Burgett in Oregon. He died in 1936, Portland, OR.
