Much of the info on this family (Mary (Denny) Key) was furnished to Sylvester Denny by her granddaughter, Mrs. Mable (Evans) Turner. There is some misinformation as Sylvester Denny states that Mary R. died at birth with her mother Mary F. Denny. Mary R. Denny DOB 2/9/1888 & died same day, Mary F. had another child Sally born 1897, so could not have died at childbirth unless that DOB and her death date not correct. Additional data on the Keys with respect to their kinship to us Denneys was obtained from WFT CD 6, Tree 1136 as submitted by Thomas Merritt of Jacksonville, Florida. Also, William Denney has contributed a considerable amount of data on this line, much of his data was obtained from the book "Key is My Name" by Irene Frances Key Padgett. This book would contain many more descendants of Samuel Denny I am sure, William only lists the family of the female Denney, therefore all Key descendants after her children would also be descendants we could add. Another possible source for more material may the book "Heritage of Surry County" Vol. 1, Key Section. Husband Augustine AKA "GUS". He is buried at the Denny Cemetery, Pilot Mountain, NC. Her husband Augustine served as a Private with the Co. C, 21 Reg., NC during the Civil War. Augustine enlisted in the CSA October 8, 1863 and was AWOL after September, 1864. He was evidently one of William's sons that Kenneth Key talked about as going AWOL.
