Nau, Obituary May 26, 1926 – July 19, 2002 Mary Frances Nau, 76, of Mt Pleasant, died at 6:25 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2002, at the Park Place Care Unit in Mt Pleasant. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Mt Pleasant with the Revs. Dr Edward R. Peterson and Patricia Triska officiating. Burial will be held in the Forest Home Cemetery. Visitation began at noon today and will continue until 9 p.m. at the Weir Funeral Home in Mt Pleasant, with the casket open till 6 p.m. Family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials have been established to the Park Place Long Term Care Unit or the Crossroads Hospice of Southeast Iowa. Mrs. Nau was born May 26, 1926, in Edina, Mo., the daughter of Ira and Ina Steir McBeth. She moved with her family to Mt Pleasant where she graduated from Mt Pleasant High School in 1943. She married Albert Wendell “Doc” Nau on Dec. 9, 1948, in Iowa City, who preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1995 at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt Pleasant. She worked for a while on the Production line of the Sheaffer Pen Company in Mt Pleasant. For the most of her working years, she was a bookkeeper for the Brown-Lynch-Scott Department Store and the Montgomery Ward Store both in Mt Pleasant. She was also known for many times she served as a clerk at auctions with the McBeth-Chaney and the Gene Glover auction services. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Peace Circle of the church. She was member of the Bethlehem Chapter #38 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the VFW Auxiliary, both of Mt Pleasant. She was an avid antique collector and belonged to the Old Sleepy Eye Collectors Club. Most notably, she possessed a huge Santa collection, with Santa’s of all styles and sizes. She will be remembered for her interest and enthusiasm for the Dallas Cowboys football team. Survivors include two daughters, Christy Nau of Mt Pleasant and Kathy Nau of Las Cruces, N.M.; two sons, Thomas and his wife Loretta Nau of Irving, Texas, and Kevin and his wife Michelle Nau of Mt Pleasant; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
