Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home and 2 p.m. at the Anthon Methodist church with Rev. C.B. Wittstruck officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery under direction of Hudgel Funeral Home. Mary Gertrude Brant, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Brant, was born near Tiffin, Iowa, April 14, 1884. She moved with her parents to Woodbury County in 1890. She was married to Edward Sand January 27, 1909, and they resided on a farm five miles east of Anthon for ten years. They then bought what is known as the Suiter Ranch five miles southeast of town and lived there fourteen years. After her husband's death Mrs. Sand moved to the home she occupied at the time of her death. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Josephine Jorgensen of Sioux City and Mrs. Esther Miller of Anthon; a son, Nicholas Sand of Anthon; six grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Brant of Anthon and Mrs. Jennie Heitman of Sioux City, and three brothers, Ira and George Brant of Anthon and Milo Brant of California. Two sons, August Edward and Winfield Scott, died in infancy.
