Read More	Married Henry Vanderloop on March 1, 1892 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Center Township, Butler County, Nebr. `````````````` Cedar Valley Promoter (Cedar Rapids, Nebr.), April 21, 1955, p. 1, col. 6 Mrs. Mary Vanderloop rites April 14 Mrs. Mary Rutten Vanderloop was born November 18, 1872 in Nunham, Holland, and died April 11, 1955 of a heart attack at her home at the age of 82 years four months and 12 days. Mary Rutten left Holland when nine years old with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rutten and six brothers and sisters. One brother John remained in Holland, where he was serving in the Holland army. They arrived in New York in 1881 from there they took the train to Manoawa, Iowa where they were detained a few days. They then traveled by train to David City where they rented a farm and settled. She attended school one year in Holland and three years in America, learning the American language, then helped her parents on the farm. She was married to Henry Vanderloop in February 1892, at Francis Center in Butler county where they farmed her fathers farm until moving to Cedar Rapids. They homesteaded a farm north of Cedar Rapids, now farmed by Bud Green, which was formerly known as the Vanderloop home place for 40 years. She is survived by her five children, Harold of Cedar Rapids, George of Canoga Park, Calif., Mrs. August Kleffner (Hannah), Mrs. John Huhman (Louise), and Mrs. Clarence Snodgrass (Lucille) all of Spalding. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Loretta who died at the age of 11 and Agnes who died in infancy, her husband Henry who died four years ago. Also a brother who died in Holland. She also is survived by 28 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Theodore of Kearney, Bill of Palmer and Jake Rutten of Cedar Rapids and one sister, Mrs. Louise Campbell of Aberdeen, Wash. She was an ardent Catholic and one of the first parishioners of Father Vermeullen and attended daily mass as much as possible. Her hobbies were working with her flowers, making quilts, and crocheting as long as her eye sight allowed. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 14 at St. Anthony’s Catholic church at 9 a.m. with Father Buehler officiating an St. Anthony’s choir singing and Mrs. Larry Massman as organist. Interment was in St. Anthony’s cemetery. Pallbearers were the grandsons, James, Eugene and Harold Dean Vanderloop, George Huhman, James Kleffner and Thomas Snodgrass. Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Lena Lachnit, Mrs. Tom Towey, Mrs. Roy Yocum, Mrs. Cecelia Van De Walle, Miss Maude Compton and Mrs. L. L. Vanderheiden. Those attending from other towns were from Genoa, Palmer, Ashland, Spalding, David City and Albion. Braasch’s Home for Funerals was in charge.
