Description	:	Mary Herford(sic) was born January 30, 1813 in Fayette county, Pennsylvania. At the age of sixteen she united with the Presbyterian church. She was married to Jesse A. Lawrence May 16, 1838. Soon afterward this young couple moved to Knox county, Ohio, where her husband was converted and with him, she found a home with the Methodists, the church of their choice, which church she adorned with her christian character until the Master called her to Eternal membership in the Church Triumphant which is before the throne of God. At the age of sixteen she united with the Presbyterian church. She was married to Jesse A. Lawrence May 16, 1838. Her christian profession was clear and distinct and when she was called to go she was ready. No one doubts the upward ascent of the spirit of the faithful servants of the Lord. In 1864 with her husband she came to Iowa and settled near where she has ever since made her home. In 1867 her husband died and was buried in Cottonwood cemetery where their bodies now both lie, side by side. To this union four children were born, three of whom yet live. One, Mrs. Sifford, having preceded her thirteen months. Twenty-two grand children and seven great grand children live to profit by her Godly life. "Mother" Lawrence died after years of natural decline, but after a few hours only of real sickness on January 20, 1898, at 4 o'clock. She was buried at Cottonwood cemetery on Sunday last January 23, Rev. Keith, her pastor conducting the funeral services. ________________________________ NOTE: This clipping excludes the date and the name of the paper in which it is published but it does say "...E CITY, CALHOUN COUNTY, IOW...", leading me to believe that it is the Lake City Graphic after Sunday, Jan 23, 1898 - the paper was published once a week only.
